It's all in the mind

Hi there!

How are you?

The end of year is coming so close, we are all busy finishing whatever it is that needs to be completed.

My apologies for not being able to update this blog. So much has happened! There's not much time to dwell on the past because at the moment, I'm also tied up with another project of creating a website that needs to be launched on Wednesday the 21st. +horror+

may be when all is quiet, and things are done I will sneak into this blog again.

You take care, OK.

How's your Blog doing?

Hi again...

How's your blogging activity doing?

Editing

Dear students,

remember to edit your posting. Check spelling, punctuation, grammar, word choice, etc. etc.
It's not easy being a writer who considers the audience (readers).

The more help you give to your readers (i.e. less mistakes/error) the better it is, and the easier it is for them to follow your train of thought.

Hi there,

How's life been treating you? And, how have you treated yourself?
I hope life treats you kindly and you also, have looked after yourself properly.

It's taken me ages to update my entry because I've simply forgotten what my blog is called! I know, I'm too 'young' to get dementia, but my being forgetful sometimes worries me. I've forgotten the password to an email account that I've kept for years. I should've stuck to the old passwords. I was so concerned that my email was being used by a third (perhaps second) party that I changed the password. So far, I'd been able to remember all my passwords or PIN, but, only recently, with so much happening around me, I managed to forget what my newest and latest password was. You see, I didn't dare write or keep my password somewhere, even in this computer. You never know who might stumble upon it! So much for taking extra caution.

Now,let's see what happened this week. It's only the second day of the week.
Yesterday, there was a soft launching of a Photo exhibition in conjunction with ASEAN's 42nd Anniversary this year, at the foyer of the library (PTAR1), with Director of INSPAG and Puan Zuraidah from Info Dept gracing the event. Initially, there were not many students, but some of us managed to get some students just passing by to register and grab a bag of goodies, provided by the Info Dept. Yes, they did register their names and took the goodie bag. But, before the event started, several students disappeared! Now,I think that wasn't nice... We had guests, and the students were told to stay behind just for the launching ceremony after which refreshements would be served. But they just walked away... In my opinion, the least they could do was just to 'give face' to our guests who had come all the way from KL just to be with us. After all that's said and done, there was a nice simple meal awaiting those who waited. The students' fare was finished vey quickly. It was amazing, food was prepared for 100 students, yet everything was gone in just a few minutes. I supposed the 'bihun goreng' was delicious.

Anyway, you are invited to see the Photography exhibition for yourself. PTAR 1 Foyer, you won't miss it. There are posters of ASEAN and informative booklets up for grabs...yes, they are free. take them while stocks last. I also took some home. Some of the booklets are quite interesting. The exhibition is open to the public until this Friday 21 August 2009. If you have time, please pay a visit.

B402
In 402 classes I was disappointed to see only 3 students came for class. Very bad. Most of the class went to settle their PTPTN loan application. I just didn't understand why they chose my hour to do other chores, which they could have done earlier. But, even if there were 3 students in my class, the lesson went on as usual. Kudos to the three 223 students who braved the weather to fulfil their obligation in attending lectures.

I found myself a bit distracted today. Perhaps my disappointment to see smaller than expected attendance wouldn't dissipate so quickly. But, both my 402 classes were taught the processes of paragraph writing and some grammar points. For my next classes, I'm thinking of revising some more grammar items. The first assessment is forthcoming.

B492
For today's 492 class, there will be a presentation on language and delivery for effective presentation skills. The materials were already passed to the students last Thursday, so, I'd expect them to be ready. In the meantime, I will also look at the students' outlines for their first Assessment.

On Friday, I'm hoping to have a replacement class. I booked a lab for this class so that the students can finish their outlines for both presentations and print them out for me to check. Materials will have to be researched and printed as well.

I have to go now. See you soon.

Salam

Hi.

I've decided to start a new blog today because sometimes it's troublesome for me to reach out to many of my students. Another reason is, I've cajoled my students to start creating their own blogs for their 'English Self', where they can express their ideas, publish their class/written work and interact with other classmates, online!

It's as simple as that. Of course I had warned them about the potential
dangers that lurk in every corner of the cyberspace. i.e., identity theft, abuse of information and pictures, etc. Thus, together with my students, I embark on a new journey of self expression in English, which is decidedly not my mother tongue.

For a start, I'd like to share with you a hot website that's useful for me and my students. It offers links to various start to jumpstart our itinerary.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, let's click and learn: http://www.internet4classrooms.com/eoc_english1.htm

Together, we can improve ourselves!
